Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area
The overall goal, in partnership with Lao government, for the management of Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area (NEPL NPA) and the development of co-management models that integrate local government and communities into the management of this protected area in Houaphan, Luang Prabang and Xieng Khouang provinces, is to conserve the NEPL ecosystem and establish model protected area management practices.
Integrated Ecosystem and Wildlife Management Project
The overall goal of the the Integrated Ecosystem and Wildlife Management Project (IEWMP) program in Bolikhamxay Province is to conserve and manage the forest resources and biodiversity within conservation forests, including Nam Kading National Protected Area, other PAs and protection forests in support of improving local livelihoods sustainably.
Initiatives to Conserve Critical Wetland Biodiversity
The goal of the program of Community-led Initiatives to Conserve Critical Wetland Biodiversity in Savannakhet Province is to scale the model of sustainable community-led wetland management to deliver long-term benefits through strengthened livelihoods linked to biodiversity protection, endangered species recovery, improved ecosystem services and reduced habitat degradation.
National Wildlife Disease Surveillance Network
The general objective of the development of a National Wildlife Disease Surveillance Network nationwide across Lao PDR is to contribute to overall socio-economic development of the country by contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of Lao PDR through supporting livelihood and agriculture by providing improved understanding of disease affecting livestock, and through adopting a One Health integrative approach. This will be achieved through improving knowledge of zoonotic and economically important disease agents carried by wildlife. Through the greater understanding of these pathogens, WCS aims to support the Lao government in protecting the health of the people of Lao PDR.
Cooperative ACTION to Stop Illegal Wildlife Trade
The Cooperative Action to Stop Illegal Wildlife Trade (CoACTION) program in the capital city of Vientiane and major wildlife trade and trafficking routes contributes to Outcome 3 of the country's 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan 2016-2020 – specifically Output 3.1 Environmental Protection and Sustainable Natural Resources Management to ensure sustainable use, management, protection and conservation of natural resources to support long-term economic development. The goal of the program is increased effectiveness of the law enforcement responses in Lao PDR to stop illegal wildlife trade occurring both within and across borders.
